A SELF-GUIDED STORY TRAIL FOR YOUNG FAMILIES
The Ward Acres Conservancy has installed a temporary Children’s Story Trail, in Ward Acres Park, utilizing the beautifully illustrated children’s book, “A Good Place” by Lucy Cousins (with permission from the publisher which also approved the inclusion of the Spanish translation). It will remain on display until the end of November.
The story follows four insect friends who want to find a good place to live. Installed near the Ward Acres Community Garden, this story trail provides parents or caregivers of pre-school and kindergarten age children the perfect opportunity to combine a nature walk with a heartwarming story. Perfect for inquisitive minds and little legs (it’s an easy walk!) it’s a fun and meaningful activity.
Be sure to take a stroll through the Ward Acres Community Garden to admire the abundance of plants and ingenuity of our gardeners. And be sure to look for the beautiful ceramic bench created by local artists and children at the center of the garden. Just Like the book, the Community Garden is “A Good Place.”
How to find the Story Trail: Enter Ward Acres Park from Broadfield Road by the main entrance and find the Community Garden to the right of the main trail. Walk along the outside of the Community Garden towards Quaker Ridge and you will find the beginning of the Story Trail a little past the end of the Garden.
Or enter the park directly opposite the Ward School ball field. There is a footpath that will lead you to the first Story panel on your right.
Hours: The Story Trail is available all the hours during which the park is open: dawn to dusk.
The Ward Acres Conservancy would like to present other Story Trails in the future. Let us know what you think, or more importantly, what the kids thought, by contacting us. We welcome the feedback!
