The Community Garden at Ward Acres Park

LEARNING, GROWING, AND BUILDING COMMUNITY

Ward Acres Community Garden is organized and operated by volunteers with the support of the New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation. Established in 2009, Ward Acres Community Garden features 88 separate 10'x10' plots. New Rochelle residents can rent plots for a nominal fee per season (approximately May 1– November 1). Shared plots are also available. Plot renters are required to maintain and cultivate their own plots while also contributing general community service to the garden during the growing season. Volunteers raised funds for the much-needed water installation this season.

The goal of the Garden is to build community, grow vegetables according to organic gardening principles, share tips with fellow gardeners, and help to feed the hungry. Six of the plots contain vegetables which are planted and then harvested and donated to H.O.P.E. Community Services Soup Kitchen. Another 6 plots are used by the Ward Elementary School grades K-5 for educational purposes. Several fun events for all ages are held throughout the growing season. The entrance is near the intersection of Quaker Ridge and Broadfield Roads. We encourage all to come and take a look at these beautiful gardens!
